Betsey Johnson- design intern

4-6 months

New York, NY

What kind of internship was this?
Unpaid, School credit

Number of days worked per week & Number of hours worked per week:
9-10 hours per day, 1-2 days per week

How did you find this internship?
School

What kind of work did you do and how relevant were your projects?
I ran around the city dropping off and picking up items like samples and patterns. I did nothing design-related at all. I basically worked as a free assistant to every branch of the company. I got coffee and lunch for employees. I ran personal errands for employees. I organized the offices, filed, and made lots of copies on the machine. I learned nothing about the industry and if I wasn’t running around the city doing errands that an assistant is PAID to do, I was sitting in a room twiddling my thumbs together until the receptionist would call for an intern over the loud speaker for another mindless task. Nothing I did was personalized work for me, the company just needs any old intern to do the tasks they don’t feel like doing because they refuse to actually hire PAID assistants when they can get it for free from helpless interns.

Number of interns you worked with on a daily basis:
4-5

Describe the dress code:
Anything goes. Professional attire was not necessary

Rate the level of professionalism in the office:
6

Please rate your internship from 1-10:

Additional comments:
I would never recommend this internship to anyone. The days drag on forever and you will learn nothing.

Wow, I’m surprised that Betsy Johnson would treat their Interns like that. I heard they send their store managers to their fashion week shows for free every year! such a shame

Wow, and to think I was about to apply!

    • Shocked

So was I. Betsy’s personality is what I had in mind before applying now I have a change of mind…
